Key takeaways from InvestOps USA 2026, Orlando

eClerx was proud to take part in InvestOps USA 2026 in Orlando. The event brought together senior operations, data, and technology leaders from across the buy-side community to discuss how firms are modernizing their operating models, strengthening data foundations, and preparing operations teams for a more automated future.

As asset managers contend with growing product complexity, expanding regulatory expectations, and rising cost pressure, operations teams are increasingly responsible for enabling scale, improving data transparency, and supporting faster decision-making across the investment lifecycle.

Below are several key takeaways our team took from the event:

●   Rethinking operating models to reduce operational complexity

Many speakers highlighted how operational efficiency today depends as much on process design and system integration as it does on staffing or incremental automation. Legacy operating models built around fragmented processes and multiple disconnected systems are becoming harder to sustain as firms expand asset classes and distribution channels.

To simplify workflows across trade support, reconciliations, and post-trade processing ops leaders emphasized the need to consolidate platforms, standardize procedures, and eliminate manual handoffs between teams with end-to-end investment lifecycle visibility.

●   Data quality is emerging as the foundation of operational performance

As a core operational function impacting investment decision support and regulatory reporting, data management remained one of the most frequently discussed challenges. Many firms acknowledged that fragmented data environments continue to create reconciliation challenges and operational risk.

Several sessions focused on building stronger data governance frameworks, including ownership models, centralized data standards, and improved validation controls. Firms that have invested in data lineage and standardization reported significant improvements in reconciliation speed, reporting accuracy, and operational transparency.

●   Automation is shifting from task-level tools to workflow orchestration

Automation continues to be a major priority, but rather than deploying isolated automation for individual tasks, many organizations are now focusing on workflow orchestration across multiple operational functions.

Technologies such as robotic process automation (RPA), machine learning–assisted exception management, and AI-powered workflow platforms are increasingly being used to reduce manual intervention in reconciliations, corporate actions processing, and client reporting.

However, as several speakers noted, the keys to successful automation initiatives are process standardization and data quality. When automation is applied to inconsistent processes, it can often amplify inefficiencies rather than resolve them.

●   Operations teams are playing a larger role in technology strategy

Another notable theme was the growing collaboration between operations, technology, and data teams. As firms invest in modernization initiatives, such as cloud-based platforms, integrated investment data architectures, and advanced analytics, operations leaders are becoming more directly involved in shaping technology roadmaps.

Participants discussed the importance of ensuring that new platforms support practical operational workflows, not just high-level system capabilities. Firms that involve operations early in platform design and vendor selection reported smoother implementations and stronger adoption across teams.
